Small group homes is one of the newest services developed by HKSAS in recent years. Through a caring homelike environment and the provision of life skills training, school work counselling and recreational activities, children deprived of proper family care are given care and concern, and are hence able to grow up happily like normal children. Our small group home workers maintain a close contact with the children's families during their stay in the homes. Efforts will be made to prepare for the return of the children back to their families when situation permits.

Children and young people aged between 4 and 18; and

Children and young people who are lack of proper family care; and

Children with no severe bahavioural and emotional difficulties; and

They are willing to receive our service; and

They have no physical and mental abnormalities; however, some of our small group homes do admit children having mild mental handicaps.

Our small group homes at Hau Tak Estate, Tseung Kwan O serve as satellites to our Mark Memorial Home which in turn provides the formers with all sorts of support including resources and professional exchanges.

Three of our small group homes at Hau Tak Homes, Tseung Kwan O, are "integrated small group homes" in that they admit children with mild mental handicap. Such a setting helps develop mutual respect amongst from different backgrounds.

One of our small group homes at Lok Fu Estate admits older boys aged between 10 and 18, thereby attending to a long neglected service gap in Hong Kong.

Applications to our small group homes should be made through social workers of the Social Welfare Department and other subvented non-governmental organizations as well as school social workers to the Central Referral System for Residential Care (CRSRC).
